Top 5 Bad Foods You Should Eat
Mostly people I meet think that they are pretty health. But when I probe a little deeper into their diets. I quickly find out that they are not eating a lot of healthy foods. Many foods, however, are not so black and white. They can be part of a well-rounded diet when eaten in moderation. The following foods may have bad reputations in your eyes, but deserve reconsideration for some good reasons.
1. Bananas
Unfortunately, bananas have a bad reputation for being a carb-rich fruit. But that's actually one reason they're so great. Research shows that eating bananas can be just as good as drinking a sports drink in fueling exercise performance. Outside of exercise, they're a good source of potassium, one of the nutrients people tend to fall short on, which is essential to help regulate blood pressure. Plus, bananas (especially the greener ones) contain resistant starch, a type of carbohydrate that may improve your gut microbiome and help keep you slim.
2. Fruit
In addition to bananas, people have been skeptical of eating berries, melons, apples or any fruit because of the sugar they contain. The good news for fruit lovers? People who eat fresh fruit every day have lower blood pressure and blood glucose levels, according to a 2016 study in The New England Journal of Medicine. In fact, eating fruit is associated with a 40 percent lower risk of heart disease and a 25 percent lower risk for stroke compared to those who shy away from fruit. "Nature's candy" offers ticker-protective potassium, fiber, folate and antioxidants. Plus, the sugar in fruit is natural and packaged together with fiber to help slow the absorption of sugar into your blood (read: less spikes and dips in blood sugar). Now's the perfect time to whip up a smoothie at home.

3. Pasta
You may shy away from the spaghetti Bolognese, but why? If you're worried about weight gain, know that researchers looked at the role pasta plays in the context of a Mediterranean diet on over 14,000 people and published their findings in 2016 in Nutrition & Diabetes. They found that those who ate more pasta were better able to stick to that style of eating, vital because a Mediterranean diet is associated with a reduced risk of conditions like heart disease and cognitive decline. Also important: pasta eaters had lower BMIs and smaller waistlines. Just be sure to stick to vegetable-based sauces, like marinara, rather than cream-heavy ones, like Alfredo. And serve your pasta alongside veggies and protein for a more balanced plate.
4. wine
A daily drink can do you good. A large study published in 2017 on more than 300,000 adults reported that people who are light or moderate tipplers are as much as 22 percent less likely to die prematurely from any cause, including cancer or heart disease, compared to teetotalers. (Heavy consumption increases these risks, so always practice moderation. That's one drink per day for women and two for men.) Polyphenols as well as the alcohol itself may be responsible for the potential benefits seen with moderate drinking.

5. Nuts
Nuts used to be condemned for their high levels of saturated fat, but now a number of dietitians and researchers have changed their stance on saturated fat, saying there's insufficient evidence to conclude that it's linked to heart disease. Plus, it is silly to eliminate an entire food category when it has so much else to offer. While nuts and seeds do contain some saturated fats, they're also chock full of nutrients from heart-healthy fiber, MUFAS (mono-unsaturated fats), omega-3s, bone-building magnesium, calcium and energizing iron.

Is eating dried fruit healthy ?
People say that dried fruit is healthy for human health. But Peoples gain a lot of weight eating dried fruit which is not healthy. The truth is that the actress and comedian Mae West was wrong when she allegedly said: "Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!" The food contains calories and eating too many calories-even of healthy foods-leads to weight gain. But there are healthy calories and unhealthy ("empty") calories, and fruit is a healthy source of calories. That's as true of dried fruit as fresh fruit.
There are some caveats, however. Because dried fruit is so much smaller than the fresh fruit from which it comes, it's easier to consume a lot of calories eating dried fruit. I rarely eat three fresh apricots or 30 grapes in the course of a few hours, but I frequently consume more than three dried apricots and 30 raisins in a few hours. Another matter of concern is that some dried fruit makers add sugars to dried fruit (which already contain their own natural sugars). When the new Nutrition Facts labels approved by the government start appearing, the amount of added sugars in a serving will be easy to determine.
Dried fruits also contain more fiber and more of the antioxidants called phenols than fresh fruit, per ounce. Fiber fights heart disease, obesity, and some types of cancer (although its possible protective effect against colon cancer is controversial). People with diets rich in plant phenols have lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, several kinds of cancer, and possibly degenerative brain diseases.
So, by all means, keep eating dried fruits: they are full of healthy nutrients. But avoid the added sugars, and keep track of calories. For More information, you can also talk to your doctor

Drinking Red Wine and Prostate Cancer
Although red wine has theoretical Benefits, it has not been proven superior to other forms of alcohols when it comes to fighting cardiovascular disease. Prostate cancer may be different. The Seattle study raises the hope that red wine may help reduce the risk of prostate cancer
![]() |
A recent report which says that drinking red wine prevents prostate cancer has made waves in the national press, but how much truth is in the claim? |
Red wine has been linked to dozens of health benefits over the years, from fighting tooth decay to preventing diabetes, but a new study has made a claim that red Wine might protect against prostate cancer.
Mailonline, Mirror and Sun, Studies and suggested that drinking one glass of red wine per day “could protect men against prostate cancer,” while switching to white would increase the risk.
Published in the journal Clinical Epidemiology, the researchers argued that the difference lies in the levels of resveratrol; a chemical found in the skin of red grapes released during the winemaking process.
The findings were part of a meta-analysis of 17 separate studies on the links between moderate wine consumption and prostate cancer, encompassing around 611,169 men worldwide.
The scientists claimed that people who drank a moderate amount of red wine were 12% less likely to develop the disease, but interestingly, “moderate consumption of white wine increased the risk of prostate cancer.”
However, this is a slight oversimplification of the study’s results. Mihai Dorin Vartolomei, Ph.D., M.D., from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Tirgu Mures in Romania said that overall, moderate wine consumption “did not impact the risk of prostate cancer.”
Between 15% and 20% of men are affected by prostate cancer at some time in their lives.
While there was some discrepancy in the effects of red wine and white wine on men within the meta-study, the authors said that, overall, drinking a glass of wine per day had no notable effect on the risk of developing prostate cancer compared to those who did not imbibe the same amount.
“According to this meta-analysis, moderate wine consumption is not a risk factor for PCa development.”
The reason the meta-analysis linked red wine to prevention is that of the results of just one study within the 17 analyzed. When this was removed, no discernible link was found.
In addition to this, the authors pointed out that they couldn’t accurately measure the effect of different kinds of wine per dosage, because the studies they analyzed were restricted to one glass per day.
“Further analyses are needed to assess the differential molecular effect of white and red wine conferring their impact on prostate cancer risk.”

5 Best summer health tips for living with kidney disease
A new research has warned that extreme heat can be risky for people with renal diseases. And if you have chronic kidney disease (CKD), you’ll probably need to take certain additional precautions to protect your health during the summer months. Here are five critical health tips designed for people living with chronic kidney disease.
New Delhi: Summer is a great time to have fun with friends and family. It is also the perfect atmosphere to do outdoor activities. Although summer allows people to go outdoors and relax, the warm weather can bring in a host of health problems, especially heat-related illnesses. Just like extreme cold increases mortality risks for people with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, summer can be a challenging time for people living with renal diseases, according to a new study. In fact, research has shown that heat and cold waves affect people with certain health conditions differently, highlighting the need for a tailored public-service risk-communication.
The findings published in the journal Risk Analysis showed that risk for people with cardiovascular disease or respiratory illness increased in the winter, but not significantly in the summer, which was the opposite for people with renal diseases. However, the study said diabetics showed no clear response to extreme temperature. “Considering climate variability over space and time, tailored emergency risk communication programmes are extremely important for informing the general public about potential health risks, such as severe heat waves or cold snaps, and how individuals can protect themselves,” said Matteo Convertino, Associate Professor of Hokkaido University in Japan who led the study. “Our model can determine such temperature thresholds to start risk communications, which is important for saving human lives,”

Hence, you should check with your doctor about your fluid intake as the temperature rises during hot summer days. Patients are advised to avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol as well as limit intake of sugar as they can cause dehydration. Also, restrict salt intake as too much of this can cause swelling and increase the blood pressure, putting stress on the heart. Kidney patients should eat a healthy, balanced diet consisting of fruits and vegetables.

Maintain fluid balance
It’s very important to keep a good fluid balance by checking with your healthcare team for guidance. While you do not want to become dehydrated, you’ll have to watch how much you drink to avoid fluid overload which can cause complications in your body. Excess fluid can also accumulate in the lungs, causing breathing difficulty.Hence, you should check with your doctor about your fluid intake as the temperature rises during hot summer days.
Apply sunscreen
People on dialysis or living with chronic kidney disease are suggested to wear a good sunscreen with an SPF(sun protection factor) of at least 15. Unprotected exposure to the sun can damage the skin and even result in skin cancers in some cases. So, make sure that you apply sunscreen liberally and remember to reapply it again every two hours. A water-resistant sunscreen is recommended when swimming or exercising.Wear sunglasses
Just as sunscreen shields your skin from the harmful UV rays, wearing sunglasses when going outside helps protect your eyes. It is suggested to look for sunglasses that block 99 percent of UVB rays and 50 percent of UVA rays.Get moving
Do not hesitate to go outside during the sunny days and get some exercise. It is vital to find ways to incorporate physical activity into your schedule. But before starting any exercise programme, be sure to check with your doctor or healthcare team who may create a fitness plan that will support your health. Studies suggest simple exercises can help improve the health of kidney patients.Plan your vacation
With a little pre-planning, you can still have a summer vacation with your loved ones even if you have kidney disease. Just make sure you consult your doctor to determine whether your health is stable enough to go on a trip. Carry your medication, including any essential medical information - in case the need arises. If you do in-center hemodialysis, plan with your nurse or medical team about making arrangements to do dialysis in the place to which you'll be heading to.Important Note
